Senior Researcher, Climate Change Group, Climate Change and Energy Efficiency Unit

Mai is a Senior Researcher with a focus on environment, economics, and sociology. Prior to joining the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ), Mai was a Researcher at Russell Reynolds Associates based in Tokyo. She was responsible for the Industrial and Technology sectors. Earlier in her career, Mai was a Researcher at a subsidiary of Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corporation. She engaged in marketing research in steel and related industries, feasibility studies of an automotive recycle system, and a multi-industry chemical and mechanical properties project. Mai received a Ph.D. in Sustainability Studies from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, an MSc in Philosophy of the Social Sciences from London School of Economics and Political Science, and a BA in Economics from Waseda University.
