Outline
On October 23, our institute released the “IEEJ Outlook 2027,” which analyzes global energy supply and demand through 2050 under two scenarios: “Reference” and “Technological Progress.” Under both scenarios, fossil fuel use will persist through 2050. Meanwhile, compounded by the impact of an energy crisis resulting from a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the transition toward decarbonization—centered on the electricity sector—will continue to progress steadily. While CO₂ emissions will see only a slight decrease under the “Reference” scenario, the “Technological Progress” scenario demonstrates that an energy transition consistent with a pathway to limit global temperature rise to within 2°C is achievable.
