Summary In recent years, the deployment of renewable energy has been expanding worldwide to enhance energy security and achieve decarbonization. Among renewable energy sources, variable renewable energy (VRE), represented by ...
Outline This study develops a methodology for evaluating power system integration costs using a sector-coupled technology selection model. Rather than assigning integration costs to individual generation technologies, the proposed framework decomposes total power system costs into LCOE-equivalent costs and six integration cost components, including backup capacity, storage, curtailment, and transmission expansion. This framework enables a detailed understanding of how changes in power system configurations and technological assumptions affect individual cost components and overall system costs. It also provides a quantitative basis for evaluating measures to reduce integration costs and supporting future power system planning and policy development.
