Outline	Plans to develop nuclear power are moving forward in Southeast Asian countries. Myanmar, with Russian cooperation, plans to begin construction of a small modular reactor (SMR) as early as 2027. Thailand has also incorporated the development of up to 9 GW of SMRs into its recently announced draft power development plan. On the other hand, there is a shortage of the technical infrastructure, human resources, and institutional frameworks necessary for the construction and operation of nuclear power plants. Furthermore, multilateral safety management must be put into concrete practice. Cooperation from Japan, with its expertise, can help alleviate these concerns and contribute to maximizing the benefits of nuclear power.
