This time, by being honored to host Prof. Jan Horst Keppler, Senior Economic Adviser of OECD NEA, and Dr. Stefan Lorenczik, Electricity Markets Analyst of IEA, we are to going offer our regular webinar focusing exclusively on costs of generating electricity. In this webinar, we will feature “Projected Costs of Generating Electricity: 2020 Edition” that is the latest edition of the highly distinguished report published by OECD NEA and IEA. Every five years, experts from selected countries bring related data and then, after imposing load factor and other conditions, evaluate “LCOE”, the levelized costs of energy over facility lifecycle, each by nation as well as by power source. This report is the highlight of these evaluations. In the latest, in addition to their usual estimates, they have tried the new calculation method, “VALCOE”, the value-added levelized costs of energy which consider about the value of capacity, flexibility and etc. in an overall electricity supply system. In the upcoming event, Prof. Jan Horst Keppler, Dr. Stefan Lorenczik, and Dr. Matsuo of IEEJ, who served as a co-chair of the expert group, are to deliver their presentations about the newly published report.
Japanese Government has initiated discussing about their new Strategic Energy Plan that is planned to be revised this year. Through this discussion, the best mix of each power source as of 2050, for Japan`s carbon neutrality target, has been on the highest attention. For this, from the perspective of cost acceptance to Japanese society in the future, electricity generation costs have been one of the most critical policy factors. In this session, from the prominent experts, you can expect for their informative insights about generation costs. QA session is to follow their presentations. We are much looking forward to seeing you again in the 8th IEEJ Energy Webinar.
